Biography

Born in Toulouse in 1966, Jean-Pascal Beintus grew up in Nice and trained at the Nice conservatoire and at the national conservatoires of Lyon and Paris. In 1984 he became a double bassist at the Opéra national de Lyon under John Eliot Gardiner.

In 1996 Kent Nagano, then music director of the Opéra de Lyon, commissioned a concerto for orchestra from him. Works followed for the Berlin Philharmonic, the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, the Orchestra of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal (Shoka, with Diana Damrau), the Russian National Orchestra and the London Symphony Orchestra (The Little Prince). Wolf Tracks, recorded by Kent Nagano with Bill Clinton and Mikhail Gorbachev, won a Grammy Award.

As a film orchestrator he has worked on more than seventy films, including Harry Potter, The King's Speech, Argo, The Imitation Game and The Shape of Water. His Fantaisie concertante for trumpet, piano and strings was premiered by Frank Braley, Romain Leleu and the Orchestre d'Auvergne.
